Avast Anti-Virus-How Good Is
it?
Avast antivirus software provides adequate PC
security which should protect you and your family from credit card
fraud; hackers, phishing and most known spyware
infections.
A computer
without adequate anti-virus protection is like going to
bed at night and not
locking your front door. Avast PC security may be
precisely what is needed to
protect your PC and sensitive information
from undesirable prying
eyes.
With the
amount of consumers at present using high speed, always
onconnections it is
even easier to fall prey to some form of online
attack or virus.
With identity theft increasing at an alarming
pace online security is even more crucial.
The Avast
software program is available in a number of different
editions.
Avast 4 Professional
antivirus,anti-spyware and anti-rootkit and the
free version which also
has antivirus, spyware and rootkit detection
built
in.
Having all detection systems constructed
into one PC security suite usually means that the install for the consumer
is smoother and simplerThe same applies when the home user is actually
utilising the program for scanning, detection use.
The integrated user interface means
quicker access to specific modules without
having to close down anapplication before opening the next
application. My own preference is for a completely separate
spyware program like Counterspy.
In previous trials dedicated spyware scanners
usually performed better in malware detection than the
ones built into a fully integrated suite of detection
software. That said, there has been a noted improvement in
the detection rate forintegrated type solutions now being
offered.
It is worth noting that there are a a
couple of other things that should be taken into account when deciding what
applications you want and what steps should be followed to insure that
your PC has adequate security.
I will mention them here briefly.
- A reputable firewall should be set up if it
doesn’t come as part of the package you have installed.
- The firewall provided with the
Windows operating system, does not provide adequate
protection.
The default firewall doesn't check what data is
being sent from your PC. In essence this means that if a piece of
rogue software gets on to your laptop by wharever means, it can easily
transmit confidential information from your PC and the Windows
firewall will just let it through.
- E-mails pose a different problem,
specifically email attachments. If you don’t recognize the sender then it’s
advisable just to ignore them.
- Downloading illegal music, movies and
software from P2P sharing sites or wherever, will surely lead to some form
of infection and problem for your home pc system or laptop.
I am reliably informed that the only way to
accomplish this safely is to download it to an external hard drive first,
scan it using your security applications and then when you are
certain it is virus free, move it onto to your main system.
My recommendation would be to stay well away
from this type of site and buy the music or software, if you really want
it.
There are many internet security suites
available on the market today. In my humble opinion Avast Anti-virus does it’s
job really well and should be seriously considered as your PC
security solution of choice.
What do I have on my home computers? -
Avast Anti-Virus of course.
