Norton Antivirus - My First
Choice For PC Security?
Norton
Antivirus, owned by symantec is one of the best known providers
of PC security suites in the market. They have a number of
software applications available such as PC Tune-UP, Back-Up
& Restore, and they also make software applications that
run on a Mac!
Their flagship product, norton antivirus has
been around for a long time and undergone many programming
makeovers. In the beginning it provided plain old virus
protection and its aim was to stop the nasty hackers from
gaining access to your trusted and faithful PC.
As massive advances were being made in online
technology a race develepod between the hackers, releasing some
juicy new trojan to sneak past your pc security and the makers
of online security solutions trying to prevent them from
succeeding.
The race is still ongoing today.
The advent of high speed broadband and
progressive technologies like; online chat, video messaging,
online banking and online shopping have turned this into a
massive market & opportunity for companies like symantec to
capitalise on. Software security providers are not the only
ones who have profitted as hackers and cyberabuse in general
has soared in the last few years
To combat this threat companies and home
computer users alike have had to learn some rules and shell out
some cash if they want any chance of keeping their confidential
information, "confidential."
Today norton antivirus comprises a protection
solution that will protect and remove; viruses, spyware, worms
and trojans. It will scan your incoming email for infected
attachments and neutralize it if required. The same level of
protection covers software applications like msn messnger and
yahoo messenger.
It will also scan and hope to detect any
rootkits that have managed to get onto your system. I have to
say that the jury is still out on the effectiveness of root-kit
detecters and detection but at least it may present some kind
of protection against this advanced threat.
There has been much talk over the years from
dedicated symantec followers, that the program has got too big
and too resource hungry. The company took this on board and
locked their programmers in the lab till they emerged with
nortons 2008 version.
There are many antivirus scanners and
internet security suites available on the market today and
Symantec products are only one possible choice when considering
how to protect your home computer. Would symantec software be
my first choice for securing my laptop or pc, probably
not.
It is not the worst product available on the
market by far, but norton antivirus is not the best
either?
